Sedalia's Comprehensive Plan Update 2014
The City of Sedalia, with the assistance of planning consultant Gould-Evans, has finalized its 2008 Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan is a tool that guides the growth and development of a community and focuses the efforts of city government on defined priorities to improve the quality of life for the entire community. From roads and sidewalks to land use and growth scenarios, the Comprehensive Plan brings feedback from community residents together with the best practices of municipal planning to ensure that Sedalia maintains a strong sense of what makes this community unique as it develops over the next ten years.
The Comprehensive Plan also calls on the City to engage its partner organizations in the development of Sedalia - recognizing that for a community to grow, everyone must be involved and share in the responsibility of driving progress. School districts, business organizations, tourism promoters and economic development professionals all have a critical role to play and the Comprehensive Plan looks to coordinate efforts for maximum results.
Residents review growth scenarios at a public forum on September 19, 2007
The City hosted three public input forums for members of the public to come and discuss their desires for Sedalia's future. These sessions also allowed participants to identify priorities, suggest general direction and review options developed during the on-going process. Drafts of the plan were available to the public at locations throughout the community and online at the City's website and the Planning & Zoning Commission held a public hearing to receive comments from the public on the proposed draft.
The Planning & Zoning Commission adopted the 2014 Comprehensive Plan Update on March 26, 2014 and the City Council affirmed its adoption on April 7, 2014.
