Sedalia Inclement Weather Information
The City of Sedalia makes every effort to keep citizens safe and informed during inclement weather. During the winter months, snow, ice and freezing rain can make travel dangerous - even short journeys on neighborhood streets can cause problems. In case of inclement weather, drivers are encouraged to take appropriate precautions by driving only as needed, reducing driving speed and removing cars that may be parked on city streets.
The City of Sedalia has designated several streets within the city as Emergency Snow Routes. These routes receive priority clearing by Public Works crews and, as such, have parking restrictions that take effect during inclement weather. The following streets within the City of Sedalia are designated as Emergency Snow Routes:
||New York Avenue
||State Fair Blvd.
||Leroy Van Dyke
||W. 10th Street
||Tiger Pride Blvd.
Map of Emergency Snow Routes
Emergency snow routes are posted with appropriate signage along the route. Designation as a snow route prohibits parking on the street when:
- there is falling snow or predictions of snow to exceed 2”;
- there is sleet or freezing rain;
- other weather conditions exist that make it necessary for roadways to be cleared.
Weather events such as these are considered snow emergencies. During a snow emergency, parking a vehicle in a designated emergency snow route street is strictly prohibited. Vehicles parked along the snow routes must be moved immediately or they may be ticketed and/or towed.
The emergency snow routes will automatically be enforced when 2 or more inches of snow, sleet or freezing rain have accumulated in a twenty-four hour period. In the case of 2 or more inches of snow, sleet or freezing rain, a public service announcement will not necessarily be issued prior to enforcement activities.
A parking prohibition shall remain in effect until terminated by announcement or the street has become substantially clear of snow and ice from curb to curb for the length of the entire block.
Vehicles parked in violation of a parking prohibition will be ticketed and/or towed.
Questions regarding the emergency snow routes may be directed to Brenda Ardrey in the Public Works Department at (660) 827-3000.
