The City of Sedalia and its economic development partners celebrate success as we solidify west-central Missouri’s regional retail center and employment base for the area. With over $250,000,000 in new construction since 2006, Sedalia is committed to adding your business to our success story. Our longstanding mission to facilitate the ease of opening and sustaining business in Sedalia begins with your first call to the area.
Our world-class economic development office, retail recruitment team and Main Street downtown development regularly work with the City’s Community Development Department to create a seamless process that is friendly to entrepreneurs and corporations alike. These award winning teams are in place to answer all needs in an efficient, fast and practical method. Any business barrier is quickly assessed and overcome through collaborative assessment and decision-making.
The City of Sedalia has been recognized state-wide for outstanding support of downtown revitalization efforts as John Simmons, Community Development Director was selected as the “Outstanding Public Official” by the Missouri Main Street Connection. Community Development is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and attends the International RECon Conference and other regional conferences where he also presents session topics. The Department’s One-Stop Shop process for licensing and permits is an often cited model used by other area community’s as an example of best practices in streamlining government processes for business development.
Our City’s economic development efforts, headed by Linda Christle, receive immediate attention by the State of Missouri Department of Economic Development. This relationship is solidified by the professionalism and responsive staff. Linda was recently awarded the Governor’s Award for Economic Development Excellence joining an illustrious and select group of inductees. Ms. Christle recently was chosen to serve on the Missouri Partnership’s Advisory Council due to her dedication to Missouri development issues and is also a recent appointee to the Missouri Municipal League’s Economic Development Committee
Under Meg Liston, our Main Street Director, we have seen over $24 million in private investment in the downtown area, leveraged by over $6 million in public investment in infrastructure. This National Historic District is redeveloping fast with a residential focus. This strategy has recently caught the attention of national retailers, such as CVS, in locating in the downtown area where residential demand for retail offerings is increasing.
Join Sedalia as we build on success in strengthening our regional market center. Our strategic location, 60 miles from the Kansas City metro and 60 miles from the state capital, Jefferson City, is a natural decision when in locating your next business expansion. Our location at the crossroads of US Highways 50 and 65 provide your company with efficient access to the interstate road system while maintaining a quiet, rural facade. Traffic through the city includes a large tourism population traveling to and from the Lake of the Ozarks and other southern Missouri destinations.
