Mayor Proclaims Friend to Youth Days
(SEDALIA, MISSOURI) : Mayor Bob Wasson issued a proclamation designating June 7 and 8, 2008 as Friend to Youth Days in Sedalia.
Text of Proclamation
WHEREAS: the mission of the Sunrise Optimists is to be a “Friend of Youth”. Over 3,000 children locally have benefited from their support. Members hand out dictionaries to 4th grade students in Pettis County and provide a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior; and
WHEREAS: the Optimists reach out to all the youth programs including softball, baseball, volleyball, soccer and Smith-Cotton High School Athletic programs. Support is given to the New Beginning Riding Therapy; and
WHEREAS: the Sunrise Optimists support the Show Me Christian Youth Home, Ewing Center, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Blue Sky, ROTC at Smith-Cotton and Kids Day at the Missouri State Fair; and
WHEREAS: the Sunrise Optimists sponsor oratorical and essay contests, the Sacred Heart Christmas dinner, and supports Respect for the Law by having a “Law and Order Banquet”; and
WHEREAS: the Optimists maintain and run the Liberty Flyer train at Liberty Park and donations go to the youth programs and the Optimist Foundation Fight for Childhood Cancer; and
WHEREAS: the Sunrise Optimists support the Mayor’s Santa Claus Campaign and provide Christmas trees to the community as a fund raising project to benefit the youth of the area.
NOW THEREFORE I, Bob Wasson, Mayor of the City of Sedalia, Missouri, do hereby proclaim June 7 through June 8, 2008 as “FRIEND TO YOUTH DAYS” in the City of Sedalia and encourage this community to support the Sunrise Optimists in their efforts as they host a tractor cruise.
