Sedalia receives $400,000 Community Development Block Grant

(SEDALIA, MISSOURI) : Mayor Bob Wasson welcomed Missouri Governor Matt Blunt to Sedalia today to hear an update from local officials on the progress of the DREAM (Downtown Revitalization and Economic Assistance for Missouri) Initiative in Sedalia and to announce a major state grant to support future DREAM efforts. The governor created the DREAM initiative to revitalize Missouri communities, create thriving downtowns and bring jobs and opportunities back to town centers.

“Sedalia is making the most of their DREAM designation. The community has continued to encourage growth in their local economy since being named one of Missouri’s first DREAM cities by taking advantage of the technical and financial assistance necessary to accomplish their goals,” Gov. Blunt said. “Missouri’s DREAM communities model the potential for all of our diverse and historic towns and cities working to revitalize their downtowns and attract new private investment opportunities to their area.”

“As this historic district looks to the future, plans for new residential and commercial opportunities are the heart of the revitalized downtown Sedalia. I look forward to working with the state as we move forward and I thank Governor Blunt for his support in making this vision; this dream; a reality for Sedalians,” said Mayor Bob Wasson.

Gov. Blunt also presented Sedalia with a Community Development Block Grant totaling $400,000 to assist with infrastructure improvements in the Downtown Historic District. As a part of the city's streetscape project, current asphalt streets will be excavated and replaced with concrete, overhead power lines will be buried, and sidewalks will be replaced. Business owners in the downtown area have pledged in excess of $1 million in private investment to match the grant award. The area to be addressed with the grant funding is the area immediately around the county courthouse.
