Wasson Family to Welcome Visitors at City Hall

(SEDALIA, MISSOURI) : The Wasson family will welcome friends and well-wishers at a public visitation in honor of Mayor Bob Wasson on Friday, May 1, 2009.  The event, to be held in the City Council Chambers, will feature a portrait of the Mayor, various flower arrangements and a memorial guestbook for visitors to sign.  The event will run from 3 to 5 p.m.

“Mrs. Wasson wanted to be sure that people had the opportunity to be welcomed by the family with the personal touch that Mayor Wasson was known for,” said City Administrator Keith Riesberg.  “Throughout his years of service to Sedalia and especially as he battled cancer in this past year, the Mayor received support and encouragement from so many of the people in this community that his family wanted to be able to say thank you in a very personal way.”

A Memorial Service will also be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009 beginning at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church (FBC) Sedalia.  The family will receive visitors beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday at FBC.

Due to space constraints, there is the possibility that seating may be limited at the Memorial Service on Saturday morning and that some individuals may not have the opportunity to be present inside FBC for the service.  The visitation on Friday afternoon offers an additional opportunity to express condolences to the Wasson family and pay respects to the memory of Mayor Bob Wasson.

Mayor Wasson passed away on the morning of Friday, April 24, 2009 after a long and courageous fight with brain and colon cancer.  Mayor Bob Wasson was 75.
