(SEDALIA, MISSOURI) : A citizen's Policy Review Committee, formed at the recommendation of the US Department of Justice to understand and review the Sedalia Police Department's "Use of Force" policy, will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 6 p.m. The Department has requested use of the Mayor's Conference Room in the Municipal Building for the meeting. The committee will be led by the Department of Justice and under its guidelines and requirements, the meeting will be closed to the public.

The committee will not review any case details, but rather assist the public in understanding departmental policies. Two police officers have been appointed to serve in an advisory capacity to assist the committee. The City of Sedalia expects to receive a report from the committee upon completion of its work and the report will be released to the public.

Questions regarding the Policy Review Committee can be addressed to William Whitcomb with the USDOJ Community Relations Service, Region VII office at (816) 426-7436.
