4/3/2020 - Mayor's Message
On Monday, March 30, 2020, I declared a civil emergency for Sedalia, appealing to our citizens to follow the guidelines to help prevent the spread of this invasive virus. Everyone knows the drill. We can be strong together. I’m appealing to all Sedalians and their families to do some serious soul searching to come up with a plan to help the community.
Dear Citizens of Sedalia:
I understand your concerns regarding the Coronavirus pandemic and hope to provide some notes of encouragement to you as we face this challenge together.
We have established the COVID-19 Community Helpline to assist anyone and everyone with their daily needs. Our staff has the capacity to answer questions and if they’re not able to provide an answer at that particular moment, they will be sure to find an answer for you and return your call. The Helpline phone number is (660) 851-7686. You may also email your questions and/or concerns to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We can help with the delivery of pharmaceuticals, groceries and supplies. If you’re having a simple maintenance issue, for example a hot water heater not working, we have volunteers willing to help. Just as importantly our team will be glad to speak with you if you would just like to talk about the situation. We are here, ready to listen.
We have many creative people within the Sedalia and Pettis County area who have developed ideas for families to help with entertainment while staying home. Robin Balke, Becky Schenewark, and Penny Coever are administrators for a Facebook page called “Things To Do While Home.” This Facebook group shares hundreds of ideas for all age groups and interests. It even has a search engine to help find ideas just for you. It’s amazing! The Sedalia Parks and Rec Department continues to keep our community entertained on Facebook with great online competitions like Cake Wars, Dance Wars, Trick Shots and they’re continually adding even more activities. Be sure to check out over 58 photos submitted for their cake competition. The Sedalia Public Library has also found inventive ways to read to our citizens through virtual story time.
As I mentioned in my March 30, 2020 Civil Emergency Declaration, my goal is to minimize the risks, stay healthy and get back to normal in 30 days. Please continue to do your part and make it the Best Day Ever.
