The City of Sedalia has declared a Snow Emergency as at least two inches of snow/sleet/ice are expected to occur January 11, 2019 through January 12, 2019. Parking is prohibited along Emergency Snow Routes as plows need access to clear and open the roadways. The Street Department is working to keep these designated streets as clear as possible to allow for emergency vehicle use. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in keeping vehicles off Emergency Snow Routes until cleared.

City receives Groundwater Guardian Award

(SEDALIA, MISSOURI) : Mayor Bob Wasson accepted, on behalf of the City, a plaque designating Sedalia as a Groundwater Guardian by the Groundwater Foundation.  The Sedalia Source Water Protection Committee has been working with the Sedalia Water Department and local governmental agencies to protect the groundwater supply that serves Sedalia and the surrounding area.

Drinking water in Sedalia is supplied 20% by groundwater and 80% by surface water.  Recent sedimentation rates have been threatening surface water supplies, along with high levels of phosphorus and nitrogen.  Dropping groundwater levels also are a concern for residents.  Sedalia uses Groundwater Guardian to build relationships with landowners, sample drinking water supplies, and increase education efforts.

Sedalia has been designated as a Groundwater Guardian every year since 2005 and is one of only three municipal award recipients in Missouri.
